PotW: Microsoft GamePass

October 18, 2020

My pick this week is XBOX GamePass by Microsoft. XBOX GamePass is the future of gaming. It is also the Netflix of gaming. Maybe you’re the kind of person that does not know what game you want to play next or perhaps you’re more casual about gaming and do not want to invest up to $60 per game just to discover you don’t like it after its refund limit is up. If that describes you, then this is the service for you!

The XBOX GamePass subscription offers over 100 games for XBOX and over 100 games for PC. When combined, there are 390 games in total from which to choose at the airing of this episode! Some games that are included are Doom Eternal, the entire Halo collection, Minecraft and Minecraft Dungeons, No Man’s Sky, the highly anticipated Flight Simulator, all the Gears of War games, Destiny 2, A Bard’s Tale Trilogy, and so many other games. If you are curious, they have all the games listed on their website. Plus, on top of all of this they are bringing EA Play to subscribers by the holidays, which will expand their library, and they will soon be including all of their ZeniMax titles from id, Bethesda, and other included publishers! We discussed those details last month on Episode 23.

Now, everyone knows the next XBOX generation is coming for the 2020 holidays, so this is the perfect addition for any gamer in your family. If you are interested in subscribing there are three tiers. The first tier is XBOX-only and gives you access to hundreds of XBOX games that are rotating through the library at any given time (plus all first-party Microsoft titles on launch day) for $10 a month. The second tier is PC-only and once again gives you access to hundreds of PC games that are rotating through the library at any given time (plus all first-party Microsoft titles on launch day) for $10 a month. The third tier is GamePass Ultimate, which includes both PC and XBOX games for $15, plus Games with Gold on XBOX which gives you three free games every few weeks. Microsoft also has a deal going where you can pay $35 a month for 24 months to purchase the new XBOX Series X and it includes a GamePass subscription.
